Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a ThermalWeld Technician? You can locate a ThermalWeld technician by clicking here and locating one on
the map near you.
What is ThermalWeld? ThermalWeld is
a unique blend of lubricating graphite and heat activated expanding ceramic fiber.
It is water-soluble and non-toxic.
What does ThermalWeld do? ThermalWeld repairs blown head gaskets in vehicles
that have experienced severe overheating or head gasket structural failure.
What is a blown
head gasket? A blown head gasket is a breach
in the gasket that forms a gas-tight seal between the cylinder head from the engine
block. This failure occurs typically in older cars that have experienced severe
overheating or in vehicles that have been rebuilt or repaired incorrectly. During
severe overheating, the head warps allowing the gasket to fail. This results in
exhaust gasses escaping from the cylinder into to water cooling ports and often into
adjacent oil ports.
What are the
symptoms of a blown head gasket? The most
visual indication of a blown head gasket is steam coming from the tail pipe after the car
is warm. However, many cars that have minor damage to head gaskets do not exhibit
any major visual indicators and must be detected by checking the cooling system for
exhaust gasses. Another symptom frequently encountered is water in the oil.
This is detectable by the milky white emulsion that appears first under the oil cap
and then on the dipstick.
What services does
ThermalWeld offer? A
ThermalWeld Technician offers his clients an alternative to the high cost
of traditional head gasket repairs. Since we do not know the level of damage each car has
experienced, guidelines have been created based on years of in-field experience. These
guidelines allow technicians to evaluate a vehicles need for head gasket repair over the
phone, and decided whether to proceed with a free house call. A survey of ThermalWeld Technicians who service new and used car
dealers, vehicle donation centers, and salvage yards find they can successfully repair 8
out of 10 vehicles.
Can ThermalWeld be
purchased over the counter?
NO! ThermalWeld is not available to the retail market and may only be used by trained
ThermalWeld Technicians.
How much does
ThermalWeld cost?
ThermalWeld is sold exclusively to ThermalWeld Technicians. They normally charge less than $300 for their service. Each treatment is guaranteed to perform to the customer's
satisfaction. Failure during the initial treatment or during warranty period will be
reimbursed at no charge.
What if ThermalWeld
fails to repair a vehicle?
Since failures occur in about 20% of the applications, Thermalweld has developed a policy
that is both fair to the customer and the technician. The customer is charged nothing if
ThermalWeld does not perform to the customer's satisfaction. If the treatment fails during
the warranty period, the customer receives a free re-treatment. If re-treatment fails,
then the vehicle head gasket is beyond ThermalWeld's capability to repair the head gasket,
and the customer receives a 100% refund on the cost of the treatment.
Can ThermalWeld damage a
Vehicle? Thermalweld is intended for use in vehicle cooling systems only. Vehicle cooling systems
include the radiator, water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, and connecting hoses. ThermalWeld will not damage the water pump or clog the
radiator.
